The success of 50 Shades of Grey rapidly changed the publishing industry's awareness of fandom. Hard on its heels, Rowell's 'Fangirl' helped begin changing publishing's attitude towards fandom. In only a few years, fanfiction and fandom have gone from being the dirty little secret of YA authors and publishing insiders to being an openly acknowledged, commonly discussed hobby. A year after Rowell's Harry/Draco-esque 'Carry On,' we're finally seeing a wave of new takes on fandom enter the YA book market. We'll discuss how some of these books interpret and describe fandom and what they have to say about fangirls and fandom as a community—and what "getting it right" looks like for us as fans.
