Ragan attempts to problematize (and ultimately deconstruct) the binaristic understanding of morality (“good” and “evil”), particularly in terms of its constructions of motherhood and masculinity. Focusing on four characters—Molly Weasley, Narcissa Malfoy, Albus Dumbledore, and Severus Snape—with seemingly solid categorization in a traditional moral system, she employs an ethics of care standpoint to evaluate each character’s actions and broaden the understanding of the moral paradigm presented through the complex, problematic network of relationships.
